To ensure the best performance and longest life, please read and follow the guidelines listed. Failing to follow these procedures can result in an engine failure.
Tech Tips
- Bolts are like very stiff springs. Stretching them to the proper amount provides the clamp load that is required to keep the parts bolted together. We recommend using the Stretch Method to accurately tighten rod bolts.
- To use the Stretch Method, measure and note the free length of each bolt before tightening. Tighten the bolt until the proper stretch is achieved. If the Stretch Method is not possible, then torque the bolts to the specifications listed (on the front of the card provided in the connecting rod box).
Installation Instructions
Getting Started:
- BoostLine connecting rods are marked with a unique serial number on each rod and cap. Do not use metal stamping to further mark the rods. The inspection report on the back of the card will provide you with the critical dimensions of each rod in this set.
- Always dissassemble and thoroughly clean all rod and bolt surfaces before assembling.
Clearances:
- Clearances are controlled by the bearing shells, not by the housing bore diameter of the connecting rod.
- Measure the housing bore of the rod with a bore gauge, and use a micrometer to measure the crankshaft to ensure the proper bearing clearance.
- We do not recommend a Plastigage for checking bearing clearance.
Assembly:
- Set the cap on the rod by hand, making sure the alignment dowels line up with the counter bores in the rod. Then using a rubber mallet, tap the cap into place.
- Lubricate the threads and under the head of the bolt with the lubricant provided.
- Do not use Loctite or oil on the bolts.
- Tighten to the specifications provided on the front of the card.
